SCCYSC Awarded Matching Grant

The Santa Cruz City Youth Soccer Club (SCCYSC) is pleased to announce that it is the recipient of a generous $10,000 matching grant from the Codiga Family Foundation. A local foundation dedicated to supporting innovative and educational organizations, Codiga recognized SCCYSC for its mission to provide positive, developmental, and character-building soccer experience for players, coaches and parents. We’re excited about the possibilities for improving and expanding our work in the community. SCCYSC will work with its Board and participating families to raise the $10,000 in matching funds.

The new funds will go towards three key areas:
1) Supporting the Mentor Coach Institute, a program that gives news and less experienced soccer coach and referees the support and guidance they need to have a successful experience. We will be hosting a training later in the year for our senior coaches and referees to learn important principles for mentoring, along with soccer-specific knowledge as well.
2) The grant will also help to expand our Positive Coaching Alliance workshops for coaches, players and parents. New offerings will help coaches and their teams develop leadership skills among our teenage players. In partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance, we will continue to work to create a positive, character-building youth sports environment for all players.
3) Provide a selection of soccer fitness, agility, and skills coach trainings pre-season for all our coaches. In addition, we will provide more of the coach equipment needed for the season to our coaches.

In order to pursue our goals, we need your help in reaching the matching grant amount of $10,000. We ask you to make a donation to our grant fund when registering your children for the season, or at any time. You can add any amount - we suggest $10 to $100 - to your registration check, or make a separate contribution. With about 1000 families in the club, we can reach our goal with an average $10 contribution from each family. All contributions above the registration fee are tax-deductible. Every dollar you donate will result in two dollars for the club!
